Did you know that today is National Flip Flop Day? It sounds totally goofy doesn't it, but it's kind of a fun thing to celebrate. You don't even have to buy a cake or balloons, just put on your favorite pair!

One of the things I love most about summer is that I can ditch my tennis shoes. I spent most of my childhood barefoot, and I still rarely wear shoes or socks in the house. For me, happy feet are bare feet but let's face it, walking barefoot through the grocery store is kind of frowned upon. I mean, sure you could try it but you'd probably end up thrown out pretty fast. 
 

In lieu of going barefoot, I've developed an affection for the lowly flip flop. My feet started screaming in flat shoes last summer so this year I'm sporting a comfy (if slightly ugly) pair of Croc brand flip flops. Can I just tell you how much I love them? Heck, my whole family loves flip flops (even my husband who is the proud owner of the really huge pair below). I took a few of our favorites out for an impromptu "photo shoot" this morning.  Haha! Baby Z's mom contacted me clear back in April about scheduling a newborn session. Since I've been building my newborn photography portfolio I've had a crazy run of baby girls and I've been anxious to photograph one of Pueblo's newest little guys.  When Baby Z's mama called and let me know that he'd made his entrance into the world a little early I was super excited to finally get to meet him. 
 

As a newborn photographer I always enjoy the job, but this little guy was just a kick in the pants. At only ten days old, and being born before his due date he was incredibly alert. It's always amazing to me how much personality shows through in each newborn I photograph. They are all so different! Baby Z also had the most adorable little forehead wrinkles which just melted me!

Baby Z followed the trend of the other babies I've photographed lately and tried to spend the entire time awake. As he was finally giving in to sleep he gave me a big smile. He dozed a little bit off and on during our session. 

The rest of our time together Z spent just chillin'. His Daddy mentioned that he likes to rest with his arms back, so we posed him that way for one of his photos. I think the photos of him awake and relaxing are my favorites from his session. There's already so much of a "little man" look in him, sometimes I almost feel like I can see the adult that these sweet babies will become. 

Welcome to the world Baby Z! I know it won't be long before you're taking it by storm!

Living in Pueblo; part of the high desert of Colorado, I often find myself being slightly jealous of the greenery and flowers photographers in other parts of the country enjoy. Don't get me wrong, Colorado is beautiful but the living backdrop of evergreens and sagebrush sometimes leaves me wishing for more trees with actual leaves and for flowers that grow in abundance. 

Last week a fellow Pueblo area photographer posted on Facebook about a field of flowers she'd found out by the airport and I couldn't resist driving out there for a visit. I was really surprised when we pulled up, there were actually tons of flowers out there! In fact, I think there were more wildflowers than I've ever seen growing in one place before; it was beautiful. 

The purple wildflowers made the perfect backdrop for a green-eyed girl with her hair blowing in the wind.
